2024 Updates and Information
This year, we are offering 2 trips for students and residents with mentorship from US ISPO board members. There will be substantial hands-on experience with patients of a variety of different diagnoses and presentations. The Mexico trip will focus mainly on prosthetics, while Guatemala will have both prosthetic and orthotic opportunities. Students will work one-on-one with mentors and patients. Trip #2: New Site Alert!
Location:Guatemala City, Guatemala
Dates: September 21-28, 2024 Mentor:
About this experience: This trip will give US students and residents an opportunity to experience P&O care from a global perspective. Working closely with your mentor, you will see a variety of patients over the course of 1 week that range from pediatric spine to upper and lower prosthetic patients. You will gain significant hands on experience in patient evaluation, casting, fabrication fitting, and follow up. Application Information: Applications are currently now open! Two students/residents will be selected. Please submit your application here. Who can apply You MUST be a US ISPO student member to apply for this opportunity. Student membership is currently $50 for 2024, so take advantage! Please sign up here: https://www.i spoint.org/membership/join/ and select ISPO Student member. You must be competing or have completed a master's degree in a recognized P&O program or currently be completing your NCOPE residency. If you are a student, we will work with your university to try to count this as clinical hours for you, but we cannot guarantee that this trip will be recognized for credit. Deadline: Applicants must submit their application by July 7th to be considered. Decisions will be made by July 15, and decisions will be sent that week to accepted participants. Costs: Costs associated with this trip that will be the applicant's responsibility are $750 + airfare. The $750 will be paid to US ISPO and will cover lodging for the trip and some transportation. Airfare a food costs will be the applicant's responsibility and applicant will coordinate with mentor for arrival and departure times. We are thankful to Cascade Orthopedic Supply for sponsoring this trip to help keep costs low.
