SERVICE LEARNING

2025 Updates and Information

This year, we are offering 1 trip for students and residents with mentorship from US ISPO board members. There will be substantial hands-on experience with patients of a variety of different diagnoses and presentations. The Mexico trip will focus mainly on prosthetics care in a low income setting. Students will work one-on-one with mentors and patients. Applications open to student/resident members of US ISPO only. ​About this experience:
This trip will give US students and residents an opportunity to experience prosthetic focused care from a global perspective. Working closely with your mentor, you will see a variety of patients over the course of 1 week that include upper and lower extremity prosthetics . You will gain significant hands on experience in patient evaluation, casting, fabrication fitting, and follow up as well as learn alongside students from the local university!

Cost:

Cost this year will be $850 to be paid to USISPO for trip support, coordination and lodging. This cost does not include the airfare from your location to Querétaro. This will be the applicant's responsibility.

Who can apply

You MUST have completed a master's degree in a recognized P&O program or currently be completing your NCOPE residency. Second year students are eligible to apply if they will be in their residency at the time the trip occurs.

Ortopedia Centro Bionico

Eddy is a board member of US ISPO and CPO at Ortopedia Centro Bionico. He is excited to host dedicated students who are interested in helping pediatric and prosthetic patient populations in the region.

About this experience:
This trip will give US students and residents an opportunity to experience P&O care from a global perspective. Working closely with your mentor, you will see a variety of patients over the course of 1 week that range from pediatric spine to upper and lower prosthetic patients. You will gain significant hands on experience in patient evaluation, casting, fabrication fitting, and follow up.

You must be competing or have completed a master's degree in a recognized P&O program or currently be completing your NCOPE residency.
